In the 1980s, Walmart introduced the Associate Discount Card. This card is given to all Walmart employees and rewards them with a 10% discount on select Walmart merchandise including Fresh products. Sam Walton created the Associate Discount Card as his way of saying “Thank You” to his employees for all of their hard work. The Associate Discount Card is a company benefit that allows associates to save money while buying necessities.
How To Get A Walmart Associate Discount Card
First, you have to make sure that you gave accurate information on your employee file because Walmart will mail it to your stated residence address. This is not a card that is given on your very first day at work. Associates receive the card after 91 days of consistent employment. As long as you stay in employment at Walmart for longer than 91 days and your home mailing address is correct your walmart associate discount card should arrive to your house automatically. If not you will need to apply online.
Walmart Discount Card For Life
According to In order to the companies own policy to get a walmart discount card for life employees need to be deemed to have achieved ‘long term service’. An associate is eligible to get this if they have been in continuous employment with Walmart for twenty years or more. To get the card the employee must submit an application within 30 days of the last day of employment. If not you will need to re appply.
Walmart associates are also gifted the long term service discount card if they are 55 of age or more, have retired and worked continually for 15 years or more for the company.
It is worth noting that if the employment was terminated for gross misconduct the former employee wont be eligible for the discount card. In the event of the card holder dying the card can be transferred to a spouse or partner.
How To Use Walmart Discount Card
After you have received your card and registered it you can start using it at physical walmart stores or on the walmart website. Here is a guide on how to use walmart discount card in those two scenarios:
Card Activation
Before using your card you will need to get an account and register online. Here are the steps:
- Open your internet browser and go to www.walmart.com
- Create an account if you don’t already have one
- Sign into account
- Click on top right on your name
- Click account on drop down and click on wallet
- Bottom right you will see ‘discounts and promotions’ under this you will see associate discount registration
- Click on ‘register’ and sign up using your associate discount number and WIN number (Walmart identification number)
- click save

Using Card Online
As a Walmart employee you can take advantage of reduced prices online at walmart.com with your walmart associate discount card. First you will need to create an account and sign in which I have detailed how to do above. Once you have done this you can login, add your code and make purchases, the discount will automatically be applied.
Using card In Store
If you want to use your walmart associate discount card at the store simply take your products the till and when you are paying for the goods swipe your card at the till register. You can only use the card at walmart stores. You can use the card in stores throughout the USA and also in Puerto Rico.
How To Get A Replacement Card
If you lose or have your Walmart associate discount card stolen you should cancel it immediately. To do this go to the walmartone.com website or call on (866) 350-3161 or (800) 421 1362). Once you have done this you can order a replacement which will be mailed directly to your house within seven to fourteen working days.
How Your Family Can Use The Associate Discount Card
Staying true to the wishes of Sam Walton – yes, your family members can use your Associate Discount Card. More than that, they can get their own Associate Discount Card. Just visit this page or contact Benefits Customer Service to get your spouse – or if you have a domestic partner – a card.
There are restrictions to keep in mind. The following may use your card but cannot be issued their own Associate Discount card:
- Unmarried children who are aged 19 or younger and living with you.
- Unmarried children aged 22 and enrolled full-time in college.
